British violinist, Martyn Jackson was born in 1988 and has performed as both a solo artist and chamber musician throughout the UK, much of Europe and the Middle East. Martyn began the 2014 concert season with a sold-out performance of the Sibelius Violin Concerto at the Konzerthaus, in Berlin and is playing this year at the Wigmore Hall,Vienna Musikverein and the Bridgewater Hall.
In 2012 he made his recital début at the Southbank Centre’s Purcell Room as part of the Martin Musical Scholarship Fund’s Prizewinners Recital Scheme. He was also invited to perform chamber music with principal players from the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra in Milan and Rome. Martyn is a selected artist on the Countess of Munster Recital Scheme 2013 and is a Concordia Foundation Artist. As an orchestral leader, Martyn has frequently served as Assistant Concertmaster of the LSO, Philharmonia Orchestra and BBC SSO.
Martyn frequently attends many International Masterclasses and Festivals and in the past he has taken part in the International Musicians’ Seminar Prussia Cove, Lac Leman Music Masterclasses, Keshet Eilon International Violin Mastercoure, Cully Classique, Encuentro de Musica y Academia de Santander and The Lake District Summer Music Academy.
Martyn is leader of the Cavaleri String Quartet, with whom he recently toured Australia and New Zealand with.
He has particpated in masterclasses given by Zakhar Bron,Vadim Gluzman, Ida Haendel, Mihaela Martin, Shlomo Mintz, Hagai Shaham and Pavel Vernikov.
Martyn is a former student of Professor Stephan Picard at the Hochschule für Musik “Hanns Eisler” Berlin, and is a graduate of the Royal College of Music, London where he studied with Professor Itzhak Rashkovsky.
In 2008 Martyn featured alongside internationally renowned violinist and conductor Shlomo Mintz in the Holocaust documentary film “Amnon’s Journey”, a flm depicting the intricate relationship between musicians and their instruments while giving voice to a lost generation. He has also broadcast live on Bayerischer Rundfunk, Suisse Romande Television et Radio, Suddeutsches Radio and on BBC 4 television.
He performs on a Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume kindly on loan to him from Frau Angela Schmeink.
